In December 2018, three K cartoonists met readers of Kavala in an engaging public debate about social and political satire in the press. At the event, which was held in the conference hall of the Imaret Hotel, a selection of sketches from past years was even presented, which excited not only those present, but also the speakers themselves: “For the first time we hear the reader’s laughter, live by us,” they said at that time. time, since the work of the cartoonist is solitary and the retrochronized result of a reasonable concept on paper concerns only the one who holds the newspaper in his hands, and not the one who signs the sketch.

On Saturday, January 21, they will return to Kavala with an exhibition organized by “K” in conjunction with the MOHA Research Center, which will be held at the historic home of Muhammad Ali. This group tribute will feature 60 sketches published in 2022 to humorously highlight social reality in the post-pandemic era. The opening is scheduled for 19:30. in the presence of Ilias Makris, Andreas Petroulakis and Dimitris Chantzopoulos, who make up the newspaper’s dream cartoonist team and whose sketches are always the first ones readers look at in print and electronic editions. The exhibition will have free admission and will run until the end of February. The goal is to present the sketches not only as a commentary on reality, but also as small paintings requiring craftsmanship.

The meeting of the group will take place at the House of Muhammad Ali, which is one of the most historical monuments of Kavala and at the same time the seat of the MOHA Research Center founded by Anna Misirian in 2006. The latter is a civil, non-governmental, non-profit organization recognized by the Greek state. Its aim is to systematically study, record, document and salvage cultural diversity in the wider Mediterranean and Middle East region. During these 17 years, he has held events, exhibitions, conferences and speeches.

The house of Mohammed Ali was associated with the ruler of Egypt, who traces his origins to Kavala, as he spent part of his life in this building. This is the man who endowed his hometown of Imaret, dedicated to teaching the Qur’an and feeding the needy. Sketches by the “K” cartoonists will be available for sale, with proceeds going to support MOAA’s new environmental education programs.
