Speaking to HotNews.ro, Grapini explained that there was an error in the voting system, that the voting key was blocked. “The key gets stuck in the remote control not for the first time. My vote was for the resolution. I reported the situation from the room and sent my assistant to write to the technical staff to write and explain the situation. Voting in the system has been changed, but the online procedure takes longer,” Grapini explained.

Recently, a member of the European Parliament asked the European Commission to inform Ukraine about non-compliance with the rights of minorities.

Maria Grapini entered the PSD list for the 2019 European Parliament elections, although she is not a member of the Social Democrats, but belongs to Dan Voiculescu’s PUSL party. This is her second term as a member of the European Parliament.

With 472 votes “for”, only 19 “against” and 33 “abstentions”, the members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution today that the military, political leaders and those who actually committed war crimes in Ukraine should be tried and punished by an international court.

The resolution voted in Strasbourg calls on EU member states to support the establishment of such a tribunal and emphasizes its important role in delivering justice to the Ukrainian people, facilitating reparations demands and the process of any future reconciliation, as well as deterring other international players. from imitation of Russia’s illegal aggression.

The parliament declares that the atrocities committed by Russian forces in Bucha, Irpin and many other cities of Ukraine reveal the brutality of war and underlines the importance of coordinated international action to bring the perpetrators to justice under international law.

MEPs ask the EU to insist on the creation of a special international tribunal in close cooperation with Ukraine and the international community to prosecute the political and military leadership of Russia and its allies.

The creation of the tribunal would fill major gaps in the current institutional structure of international criminal justice and complement the investigative efforts of the International Criminal Court, which is currently unable to investigate the crime of aggression in Ukraine.

EP resolution – The political and military leadership of Russia and Belarus must be held accountable

Noting that the exact methods and composition of the special court have yet to be determined, MEPs emphasize that it should have the competence to investigate not only Vladimir Putin and the political and military leadership of the Russian Federation, but also Alexander Lukashenko and his associates in Belarus.

They also emphasize that the EU’s preparatory work on the special court should begin without delay and focus on establishing modalities for the special court in cooperation with Ukraine. It is necessary to support Ukrainian and international authorities in obtaining evidence for future use.

“Parliament is firmly convinced that the creation of a special court will give a very clear signal to both Russian society and the international community that President Putin and the Russian leadership as a whole can be convicted of the crime of aggression in Ukraine. The MEPs emphasize that it is no longer possible for the Russian Federation under the leadership of Putin to return to the former relations with the West,” says the press release sent by the EP.
