Former Oasis guitarist and vocalist Noel Gallagher has not ruled out a reunion of the popular British band in the future.
Songwriter and performer, Gallagher left the band in August 2009, stating that he could no longer work with his younger brother Liam. While they parted ways with great musical success, the questions and calls from fans for a reunion didn’t stop.
“Never say never,” Gallagher told BBC Radio Manchester, quick to add that for a future Oasis reunion, “there must be exceptional circumstances” which he says are likely.
Promoting his album Council Skies, Gallagher said, “It’s a return to the beginning – dreaming, looking up at the sky, wondering what life might be like. This is as true for me now as it was in the early 90s when I grew up in poverty and unemployment. The music got me out of it.”
He recalled that his mother, Peggy, realized that Oasis only became famous after appearing on the BBC charts. “When we got on Top of the Pops, he agreed.”
Oasis started in Manchester in 1991 and released eight #1 singles, including “Some Might Say” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger”. Together with “quivering rival” Blur, they dominated the Britpop scene in the 1990s.
At the height of their success, in 1996, they played two legendary shows at Knebworth in front of 250,000 people.
Gallagher says he’s still as passionate about music as he was then. “I still love writing… and the creative process,” he said. “It doesn’t get old for me. I’m just as fascinated by him today as I was 13 years ago when I started solo and when he came out [το πρώτο άλμπουμ των Oasis] Definitely possible, 29 years ago.”
“I love the feeling of creating something out of nothing and the journey that a song goes through… in the studio, playing it in the world, distributing it there, and then listening to it on the radio. That’s what keeps me on my toes.”
Gallagher has stated that he never considered Oasis membership a “burden”. “It’s always been a blessing to be able to get on stage… with songs that mean so much to people.”
