The Prosecutor’s Office of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate is conducting searches on Tuesday at five checkpoints, most of them with the Republic of Moldova, in a corruption case, DNA reported. Judicial sources told HotNews.ro that they are prosecuting border police officers suspected of accepting bribes ranging from 20 to 250 euros per person.

According to DNA, the prosecutors of the Territorial Service of Iași, in coordination with the judicial authorities of the Republic of Moldova and with the support of Eurojust (the European Union Agency for Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters), are investigating a criminal case on suspicion of corruption. in connection with transit through border points committed in the period from July 2021 to September 2022.

On Tuesday morning, searches took place at 31 addresses in the counties of Iasi, Vaslui, Botosani, Galats, Neamts and Bihor, five of which are border crossing points, the rest are private homes.

Judicial sources told HotNews.ro that the searches are taking place at the border crossing points in Albica, Stanca, Skuleni, Oanche (all with the Republic of Moldova) and Borsh (Bihor).

The same sources report that they are pursuing border guards who allegedly took bribes from various individuals in the amount of 20-30 to 250 euros. The money was allegedly charged to avoid issues such as visa expiration or excess baggage.
