Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Bill Burns came to Kyiv before the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine to inform Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about plans to assassinate him, author Chris Whipple claims in his upcoming book, “The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House,” reports The Independent.
In his upcoming book, The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House, author Chris Whipple writes that Zelensky received a secret briefing from CIA Director Bill Burns about a threat to his life.
In a copy of his book obtained by The Independent, Whipple said Burns went to Kyiv to “get a reality check”.
According to him, Biden instructed the director of the CIA – the former US ambassador to Russia – to provide Zelensky with “exact details of Russian conspiracies.”
“This immediately attracted Zelensky’s attention; was surprised, stunned by this news,” he wrote, as Zelensky publicly dismissed warnings from US officials that Moscow would soon launch its largest ground invasion since the end of World War II.
Ukrainian officials say Zelensky has survived more than 12 assassination attempts by Russian forces since the war began last February.
According to Whipple, at least two of those success stories were related to American information shared by Burns during that visit to Kyiv.
“The information was so detailed that it helped Zelenskyi’s security forces prevent two separate Russian attempts on his life,” he wrote.
The British newspaper The Times wrote in March 2022 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who would have been directly threatened by Chechen troops and mercenaries from Wagner’s group, fled after three assassination attempts in just one week.
