12th graders will take the Romanian language exam regardless of profile, and an important change due to the new education law will be the introduction of an additional skills test. Those from the human profile will take an exam in mathematics – a “test of basic skills”, and those from the real profile will have a test of skills in the social and human sphere, official sources told HotNews.ro.

The draft Law on Pre-University Education and Law on University Education, revised during the mandate of Minister Lygia Deka, will enter the parliamentary debate after February 15 according to the calendar agreed by the leaders of the coalition.

According to official sources, an important change to be made in the B.Sc. examination will be the introduction of an additional proficiency test. So, students of the human profile will pass a written test on knowledge of basic skills in mathematics, and students of the real profile – skills in the social and human sphere.

Cited sources told HotNews.ro that the math proficiency test will not test knowledge of trigonometry, but will test whether a child can apply basic concepts. What does social skills testing mean? It will be a written exam in several subjects from the social and human sphere, such as logic, economics or history. Candidates will be graded “passed” or “failed” for this test.

The baccalaureate exam, according to the new draft education law, will retain knowledge of language and digital skills. Both language and digital skills will be supported by 11th grade students.

Assessment of language skills will be written rather than oral as it is now, and will be supported by both foreign languages studied in high school instead of just one as it is now.

Also, 12th grade students will take a written bachelor’s exam – at the exam session itself – in Romanian language and literature, regardless of the profile, and a native language exam for those who study in their native language. There will also be a written exam for the profile test and a choice test.

If new education laws are passed this year, 2028 could be the first year the new rules apply.
