100% electric XC90 replacement, new Volvo EX90 equipped with many driver assistance technologieswhich work with LiDAR, cameras and radars to analyze the vehicle’s environment and thus contribute to the safety of passengers.

To go even further and prepare for autonomous driving functions, the car must be able to more accurately recognize the environment both in front of the vehicle and at greater distances, beyond the bends and curves that arise. This is how Volvo uses Google HD Maps technology for their vehicles.

Google HD Maps: a detailed mapping system

Google HD Maps is a mapping system designed specifically for use by car manufacturers, providing them with highly detailed and up-to-date traffic information. Google Partners, Volvo and Polestar will be the first brands in the world to integrate this technologywhich will be installed for the first time on the Volvo EX90, as well as on the Polestar 3.

“The integration of Google HD Maps into our future vehicle lineup marks the expansion of our strategic collaboration with Google, reflecting our commitment to working with leaders in the technology industry. Integrating Google HD Maps into our future vehicles will help us provide our drivers with a more enjoyable driving experience, and will contribute to the adoption of safe autonomous driving in the future.”– said Javier Varela, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Volvo Cars.

Google HD Maps: more accurate autonomous driving

Thanks to the integration of high-definition maps from Google, the Volvo EX90 canenrich the data numerous sensors to better predict traffic lanes and road profile. This therefore allows for improved driver assistance functions such as lane change assist or Volvo’s next-generation intelligent driver assistance technology (Pilot Assist), not to mention future functions, future autonomous driving.

A vehicle’s central computing system that uses platformsArtificial Intelligence Nvidia Drive’s Xavier and Orin take traffic information from LiDAR, cameras and other sensors in the car and combine it with Google HD Maps data. Turning to a security software Developed by Zenseact, Volvo is improving the accuracy of its driver assistance systems as well as the safety of its cars, and this will also benefit future autonomous driving technology in the EX90.

Volvo is investing in autonomous driving

Volvo aims to be a leader in new technologies and recently acquired 100% control Zenseacther a subsidiary company specializing in the development of software for autonomous driving. The Swedish manufacturer held 86.5% of the company until the deal, a few days ago, which allowed it to gain control of the remaining 13.5% of the shares.

Although a subsidiary of Volvo, Zenseact will continue to operate as a separate company and will be responsible for the development of safety, advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving technologies, including soon for Volvo and Polestar vehicles.
