Cristiano Ronaldo must serve his sentence in England

According to the Daily Mail , Ronaldo will not play as he has to serve a ban picked up during his time at Manchester United.

On April 9, the Portuguese was caught punching the teenager’s mobile phone as he headed to the dressing room after his side had just lost 1-0 to Everton.

In November, Ronaldo was suspended by the English Football Association (FA) for two matches and fined 55,000 euros.

Ronaldo has since terminated his contract with Manchester United, but under FIFA rules the ban remains in effect even after a player moves to another league.

CR7 will therefore miss the matches against Al-Ta’i (January 5) and Al-Shabab (January 14) and is likely to make his debut against Al-Ettifaq (January 21).

“Any disciplinary sanctions of up to four matches or up to three months imposed on a player by a former association that has not completed full service will be served during his transfer and will be served by the new association to which the player was registered, the sanction will be applied in domestic competitions ” – FIFA regulations.
