In Russian social networks, the first stories of those who survived the massive strike by the Ukrainian military on the barracks in Makiivka, in which many Moscow soldiers allegedly died, have begun to appear, independent researcher Chris Owen notes. Twitter.
A common element in the accounts is that the number of Russian soldiers who died here far exceeds the official death toll of 63 announced by the authorities in Moscow.
“We’re pulling their brains out of our boots,” one survivor said, as relatives of two men mobilized in Samara region said more than 400 men were housed in a boarding school used as barracks by the invading forces and that it had been shelled . Ukraine received 4 missiles launched by HIMARS systems from the USA in the middle of last year.
Images that appeared on social media since Sunday showed only smoldering piles of debris left at the site of what used to be a sprawling two-story building.
Among the Russian soldiers were fighters from the 44th and 45th regiments, two traditional Russian military units, some of whom managed to escape after the first rocket hit the building.
“Many more people [decât bilanțul oficial de 63] they were killed,” said one of the relatives, adding that some of the lifeless bodies are still being pulled out from under the rubble.
She also reported that she suspects that the location of the barracks was indicated to the Ukrainians by local residents.
According to reports that appeared in the first hours after the attack, many of the victims will have to be identified with the help of DNA tests.
A large number of dead Russian soldiers near Makiivka
“Indeed, there are many dead. I know that almost everything they had with them remained in the building. I know that many of them were torn to such an extent that almost nothing remained of the bodies,” said the wife of one of the soldiers.
The survivors were taken to a hospital in Russia’s Rostov region, and the wife of one of the surviving soldiers said he “wrote a few words to let me know he was alive.”
“Other guys called who survived, walk in flip-flops. They have nothing: no things, no medicine, no money, no food… It’s just terrible,” she said.
The lack of medicines and basic necessities for the victims was highlighted by a call on social media from relatives of those mobilized in the Saratov region, who reported that the soldiers lost everything during the attack:
“All the company’s property has been destroyed, we are at the bottom. People have only what was left with them, there is nothing else.”
“Everything that the mobilizers had with them remained under the rubble. We need EVERYTHING,” one of the relatives emphasized.
Now they are trying to raise funds for the military on social media and through appeals on Russian Telegram channels, just as they tried to raise money for equipment after the partial mobilization was announced on September 21.
