
The organizers of the Australian Open have announced record prize money for the 2023 tournament – 48.3 million euros. From January 16 to 29, this year’s first Grand Slam tournament in world tennis will take place.
Australian Open 2023, the total prize fund increased by 3.4%.
As reported by AFP, we are talking about an increase in total prizes by 3.4% of next year’s AO issue.
The winners of the women’s and men’s singles will receive a check for 1.88 million euros.
Important help will come from the organizers and for athletes who leave the Grand Slam in Melbourne in the first round: a prize of 67,400 euros.
Craig Tiley, director of the competition, talks about the first tour in Australia: this will be the first time that the total prize pool will exceed 100 million Australian dollars.
Moreover, over the past 20 years, prize money at the Australian Open has increased by 321% (!).
Simona Halep, the only absence from the WTA TOP-20
Five athletes from Romania are directly qualified for the main draw from AO: Iryna Begu, Sorana Kirstya, Ana Bohdan, Jacqueline Christian and Patricia Sig (the last two with a protected rating).
Only one absence was announced in the WTA TOP-20: Simona Halep, temporarily suspended for doping.
The reigning Australian Open champions are Ashley Barty (now retired from tennis) and Rafael Nadal (the record holder for the most Grand Slam titles among men).
The Australian Open has been held at Melbourne Park since 1988 (this will be the 55th edition of the Open Era) and the main arenas are:
