President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky proposed today to the G7 countries to convene a “global peace summit” for their country after nearly ten months of Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“I propose to convene a special summit – a world peace summit – to decide how and when we can implement the points of the peace formula in Ukraine,” Zelensky said during a teleconference, calling on Russia to “withdraw its troops from Ukraine before Christmas in order to “ensure a solid cessation of hostilities”.
Earlier, Zelenskiy, speaking to the world’s G7 most powerful economies, said his country needed “nearly two billion cubic meters” of additional natural gas to get through the winter.
“Fear of our power plants has led us to use more natural gas than anticipated. And for this reason, we need additional support this winter. We are talking about a volume of almost two billion cubic meters of natural gas, which must be purchased additionally,” he stressed.
Russians use 40-year-old ammunition
Russia is turning to decades-old munitions with a high failure rate as it depletes its stocks for its nearly 10-month-long invasion of Ukraine, a senior US military official said.
The Russians “are using stocks of obsolete munitions, which suggests that they are ready to use these old munitions, some of which were made more than 40 years ago,” said the official, who asked not to be named.
“In other words, you load ammunition and pray, hoping that the gun will fire or when it (the missile) lands, it will explode,” he added.
