The United States will send $275 million in new aid to Ukraine to strengthen its defenses, especially against drones, a White House spokesman said on Friday, as quoted by AFP.

“A new $275 million military aid package will be sent soon to give Ukraine new opportunities to strengthen its air defenses and counter drone threats,” said John Kirby, US National Security Council carrier.

According to him, the Americans will also supply the Ukrainian military with artillery ammunition, in particular for “Khimar” — high-power, high-precision artillery systems mounted on light armored vehicles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that his military would continue to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in response to attacks Moscow blames on Kyiv, including the Crimean Bridge, which was partially destroyed in early October in an airstrike from a truck.

This new tranche brings total US aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February to more than $19.3 billion.

The Kremlin may not have abandoned its “maximalist goals” in Ukraine, despite Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov admitting for the first time that Moscow’s current territorial goal is to fully conquer the four partially occupied Ukrainian regions that it claims to have annexed after referendums, according to the latest assessment of the conflict by the Institute for the Study of War.
