About Romanian Google searches in 2022
Google’s lists show the topics and people that generated the most interest in searches in Romania, the most popular events of 2022 for Romanians, what they were interested in in terms of movies, series and recipes, or what questions they asked themselves.
The war in Ukraine was the number one topic in Romania’s Google searches, with Ukraine, Russia and the leaders of the two countries among the top searches. The census was the most popular search activity in Romania.
Google’s 2022 search list includes global events such as the death of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, the Eurovision Song Contest – this year’s edition marked by controversy, technology launches and an increasingly hot topic on the global agenda, which is also on the local agenda: climate change.
Romanian swimmer David Popovic’s achievements have made him one of the most searched people on Google in Romania. In this list we find the actor Will Smith, who was brought here by the incident with Chris Rock at the Oscars this year, or the singer Florin Salam, who was (erroneously) reported dead this year.
The Romanian film “Team Building” is not only the first in the list of the highest grossing films in Romania in 2022, but also in the search ranking. There is another Romanian film in the TOP 3 most popular films in Google search results, “Capra cu trei ezi”, this is the first time we find two Romanian films in the top three in this top (since 2011, since Google published the search ranking in Romania).
“What is roxadustat?” Romanians asked Google after learning about Simona Halep’s accusation of doping. What is NATO, Schengen or ROBOR, Romanians asked themselves this year, reflecting the important topics of the year’s agenda in Romania – the war in Ukraine, the accession to Schengen and the evolution of interest rates. NFT or Metavers were also on the list of questions, showing interest in the innovation of the digital world.
The most popular recipe searched by Romanians in 2022 was the recipe for negressa. In the recipe search list, we find preparations from the best previous years, such as pasta, as well as some quite original ones, such as tempura batter or balsam (a shepherd’s dish with cheese and polenta). Romanians were looking for dinner ideas, but also looking for Halloween costumes or Instagram names. Vacations in Greece and Bulgaria (more precisely, the all-inclusive option) were the most popular in Google profile searches. Tenerife, Croatia, Egypt or Albania were popular destinations in search of a holiday, on the list of which we also find exotic places such as the Seychelles.
The top searches on Google in 2022 came from lists of “trending” searches: searches that have seen a significant increase in 2022 compared to 2021 over a significant period of time, indicating increased and ongoing interest in the topic in question.
Methodology:
The 2022 searches are divided into several categories to reflect the search trends in Romania in the year just ending. The lists contain “trending” searches, searches that saw the greatest growth between January 1, 2022 and December 1, 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.
These are different from lists of the most searched phrases/words on Google, which tend to change very little from year to year. Analysis of popular search queries allows you to determine the specific interests of 2022.
The lists are created using a combination of several services and tools that give us a detailed picture of global and regional search trends.
Most of the data comes from the public service Google Trends, which shows the number of searches by different geographic regions, time periods and terms used.
