The political system has entered the most contentious December of recent years, when party headquarters are preparing for fierce parliamentary battles. Economics and chance telephone monitoring are in the center due to the situation, while the side fronts are not absent, for example, related to Health.
Meeting of the national delegation next week on the budget for the elections of 2023 and the final discussion and vote on the bill on EYPscheduled for next Thursday, with political leaders, Mr. Mrs Mitsotakis and Al. Tsiprasto set up an appointment for a confrontation that everyone expects to have particularly tough characteristics, they present two climaxes in the plenary hall before the holidays.
Yesterday, the President of SYRIZA lashed out bitterly at the Prime Minister on the banking issue.
As for the economy and social policy, N.D. highlights the obvious international aspects of the crisis provoked by the war in Ukraine, and emphasizes that even with the new budget, it “provides a path for the development of the country and unhindered support for society, without, however, endangering fiscal stability” (C. Staikouras). In contrast, SYRIZA speaks of a policy of “forcible redistribution of wealth” and argues that only part of the accuracy is imported, and “inconsistency is a sign of Mitsotakis’ policy.” Even on the more specific issue of banks, the leader of the official opposition personally blamed the prime minister, saying that he was “indifferent to the situation, which is taking on uncontrollable dimensions.”
The personal attacks on Mr. Mitsotakis by the President of SYRIZA continue and have become particularly intense in connection with wiretapping. For his part, however, the prime minister seems to insist on an institutional function of himself and the government, exercising both a legislative and supervisory parliamentary function towards the ruling majority. As for the “personal” aspect, the majority most often prefers to talk about “covering up” the extreme voices of SYRIZA on behalf of Mr. Tsipras. In this context, it has not gone unnoticed that one year after the dismissal of Mr. P. Kurumplis, since he then asserted in extreme terms that the leaders of the majority are responsible for the deaths of thousands of people due to the pandemic, President SYRIZA from the rostrum Vulis said the day before yesterday, addressing to the ruling majority: “On your back – I lost count – more than 35,000 of our fellow citizens died during the pandemic. You have to explain 35,000 families.” A little later, Mr. P. Polakis called the Minister of Health “the boatman of Acheron.” In this highly bipartisan scenario, PASOK intervenes, emphasizing: “Woe to the country if economic and political stability depend on whether Mr. Mitsotakis remains in power for life or whether Mr. Tsipras returns to the post of prime minister. PASOK has its own offer and can guarantee a new management model” (Mih. Katrinis).
However, as the recent debates in the National Security Council showed, SYRIZA is trying – despite the constant rejection of the idea of PASOK, KKE and MERA25 – to maintain the government’s scenario of cooperation of progressive forces. “We got acquainted with the progressive government of Tsipras-Varoufakis-Kammenou, who presented the third memorandum,” Mr. N. Karatanasopoulos caustically comments on behalf of the KKE.
