On Monday, Energy Minister Virgil Popescu classified the USR’s accusations of a solar tax as fake news and claimed that all Romanians who install solar panels on their homes will not pay any tax on the energy they consume and produce.
The main statements of Virgil Popescu:
“In my opinion, what is said about the introduction of the tax is fake news. Absolutely no taxes are imposed. You should know that all Romanians who install photovoltaic panels on their houses will pay absolutely no tax for the energy consumed, energy produced. We are not talking about any tax.
There is a possibility, under certain conditions proposed by the EU directive, when the number of consumers will be very high and reach 8% of the installed capacity of the national energy system, based on the study that ANRE will carry out at that time, something very unlikely we will reach this percentage starting from December 1 2026, then the Member State can introduce the tax through ANRE or Mediu, etc.
There is no such thing as tax tomorrow or the day after tomorrow or next year or 2 years from now or 3 years from now or 4 years from now. I categorically deny the existence of a tax for prosumers, and the Ministry of Energy will never support the establishment of a tax,” the Minister of Energy said on Monday.
