1,200 pillows, mattresses and blankets from the state reserve, this is how the mobilization of Constanta for Ukrainian refugees began on March 7, on the 12th day of the war, when it became increasingly obvious that the Russian invasion would not end soon, writes Info SudEst.
Constanța became the second pole after Bucharest-Ilfov, where Ukrainians fleeing the bombing settled. Between March and October, the county allocated €13 million for accommodation and food for refugees under the 50/20 programme. The money is not subject to taxation.
In total, during the same period, Romania spent 75 million euros on Ukrainians who left the country because of the war and temporarily stopped or stayed here. In August, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke announced that the EU had paid the first tranche of 39 million euros of this money.
