The 75-year-old singer, known for hits such as ‘Tiny Dancer’ and ‘Rocket Man’, said there was no more fitting way to retire and say goodbye to his British fans than by taking to the stage at the famous festival. reports Agerpres.

Elton John is nearing the end of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which began in September 2018 and was cut short during the Covid-19 pandemic. During his more than 50-year career, he gave more than 4,000 concerts in more than 80 countries.

He released his first big hit, Your Song, in 1970, the year Glastonbury first took place in south-west England, when tickets cost a pound and visitors drank free milk from the host farm.

“Every week I talk to young artists on my radio show and Glastonbury is often mentioned as a key moment in the beginning of their careers – the way the festival honestly and enthusiastically supports the youngest talents is admirable,” the artist said in a statement.

Emily Eavis, one of the organizers of the festival, said that the artist will appear on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night next year.

“This will be the last UK performance of Elton’s farewell tour, so we will end the festival and mark this important moment in both stories with a grand farewell,” she said.

Elton John wrapped up part of his US farewell tour with a star-studded concert in November at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He will play in Australia and New Zealand in January before kicking off a UK tour with the first show in Liverpool in March.
