The spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, sharply criticized the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maya Sanda, asking what the “citizen of Romania” has done for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and stating that Russia has always helped the people of Chisinau, but instead, the Moldovan authorities promote Russophobia at the behest of the West, reports deschide.md.
- “Who left the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the dark and cold, Russia? For so many years, we helped them, delivered and provided everything possible, received citizens of Moldova, offered them work. It was an investment in the economy of the Republic of Moldova for all these 30 years. What, the Romanian citizen Maia Sandu does not know this? What did she do for her people? And what the current leadership, which has the citizenship of another state, is doing, no one understands.
- This state of affairs is regrettable. We also see that attempts to introduce the image of Russia as an aggressor into the minds of the friendly Moldovan people are not working. People saw how Russia stood alone, forming a new state.
- And, despite all these difficulties, we helped the Republic of Moldova and its citizens. The people of the Republic of Moldova know and remember this, and I am sure that no one will forget,” Zakharova said, according to deschide.md, which is quoted by news.ro.
Zakharova also accused Chisinau of promoting Russophobia and that independent TV channels in the Republic of Moldova are intimidated every day because they are prohibited from broadcasting Russian news programs.
- “We are closely monitoring the situation in Moldova. We regret to state that the West continues to involve the country in an anti-Russian campaign with the help of the Chisinau authorities. The scenario is similar to what happened in Ukraine, the clearing of the information space from uncomfortable thoughts, political repression, burning Russophobia, the status of neutrality, ties with NATO.
- All this is done by politicians who were fed from the Western feeding trough. Earlier, we drew attention to the violation of mass media rights in Moldova, where the broadcast of Russian news programs is still prohibited.
- I will explain why this is important. Only those TV stations that actively promote Russophobia remain, and those that equated this anomalous phenomenon are destroyed,” the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also stated.
Zakharova believes that the current government in Chisinau is “temporary and financed by foreign money” and accuses Russia of everything to divert attention from domestic problems.
