Iran: Families of foreigners are threatened with torture if they don’t sing the national anthem

Relatives of Iran’s national football team are being threatened with jail and torture if Iran’s national team players don’t “behave properly” ahead of Tuesday’s match against the United States, a match security source told CNN.

After the Iranian players refused to sing the national anthem in their first match against England on November 21, a source said the players were called to meet members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The source said they were told their families would face “violence and torture” if they did not sing the national anthem or take part in any political protests against the Tehran regime. Thus, the Iranian national team duly sang their country’s national anthem in the match against Wales last Friday.

The same source, who closely monitors Iranian security services operating in Qatar during the World Cup, said dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers have been tasked with monitoring Iranian football players who are not allowed to socialize on the street, leave the group or meet with strangers. .

“There are a large number of Iranian security personnel in Qatar who are collecting intelligence and following the players,” the source said.

Agents in the stands

Players were promised “gifts and cars” ahead of the England match, the source said, but the regime shifted to threatening players and their families after the team refused to sing the national anthem, the source said.

“In the game against Wales, the regime sent hundreds of so-called supporters into the stands to give the fans a false sense of support and favor. By the next game against the US, the regime plans to significantly increase the number of these viewers to a thousand,” the source said.

The match between Iran and the United States will take place on Tuesday at 9 pm Greek time.
