The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Senkevich said that there is no drinking water in this city in the south of Ukraine after Russian troops damaged a pumping station in the neighboring Kherson region, News.ro reports with reference to The Guardian.
“During the rocket attack, Russian terrorists damaged the pumping station of the Mykolaivvodokanal MCP located in the Kherson region. Therefore, for an indefinite period, we are forced to provide the city with water from the Buzki estuary, only for communal services,” Sienkovych wrote in his Telegram account.
According to him, the water supply in the city was restored recently, it was repaired a week after the liberation of Kherson by Ukrainian troops.
“We are dealing with real terrorists who are powerless against our army and therefore fight against the civilian population,” the Ukrainian official added.
Sienkiewicz said that repair work is ongoing on the networks that were damaged by the influx of much more aggressive salt water.
“As soon as the security situation allows, we will quickly restore the operation of the pumping station and restore the supply of drinking water to the city of Mykolaiv,” the mayor promised.
“We were all waiting for the liberation of Kherson and other temporarily occupied territories. “Immediately after that, the water supply system was repaired promptly, literally within a week,” Sienkovych emphasized, reports CNN.
The attack is part of a Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian infrastructure that supplies water, electricity and heat as winter approaches.
