Today, more and more EPZs are popping up all over France. Of course, we mean, in particular, Paris, as well as Rouen, Lille, Strasbourg and even Lyon. Eventually, all major cities will have to go through this as part of the Climate and Sustainability Act passed in 2021. But for now, motorists still have a bit of a reprieve and can keep theirs old car in some cities, it is not always easy to set up an EPZ. While eleven metropolises have already adopted the measure, it is not yet the case for some, notably Bordeaux. And this is even if the city is pursuing a very ecological policy after the last municipal elections. But how is it done?

Indeterminate schedule
Unfortunately, the ZFE will only really come into effect in the next few years as it becomes a liability in 2025. But in reality, everything does not go as planned. Of course, there is no mention of its application, but there are currently discussions about the form it will take. low emission zone. Because if the territory has already been determined, now it is necessary to agree on the calendar and exact dates. And this, it would seem, is far from a victory. We remind you that the ZFE will be limited to the territory located inside the ring road, but this measure will not be affected. Now the question of dates remains…
Several options
Some elected officials want ZFE implemented as early as 2024, with a ban on Crit’Air 4, 5 or unclassified vehicles. Later in 2025, Crit’Air 3 cars will be banned, followed by Crit’Air 2 in 2028. A slightly less unpleasant scenario is the implementation of this ZFE in 2027 for Crit’Air 4, 5. and unclassified vehicles. Crit’Air 3 will be banned two years later than the first, i.e. in 2027, while Crit’Air 2 will be banned in 2030. On the other hand, Crit’Air and electric vehicles were not affected by these measures.
