UK sends helicopters to Ukraine The British Ministry of Defense said it would help counter the Russian attack.
The first Sea King helicopter has already arrived in Ukraine, and two more will follow.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, who is in Norway to discuss Ukraine’s military support with allies, also said London should send an additional 10,000 artillery rounds to Kyiv.
“Our support for Ukraine is unwavering. This additional ammunition will help Ukraine defend the territory it has reclaimed in recent weeks,” Ben Wallace said, according to a Department of Defense statement.
And “the first batch of Sea King helicopters is arriving in Ukraine to provide significant search and rescue capabilities,” the statement said.
The UK has been one of Kyiv’s strongest supporters since Russia’s February invasion, providing military assistance including air defense systems and drones, but London has yet to send a single manned aircraft.
According to the announcement, the British Army in the United Kingdom will train 10 Ukrainian army teams and engineers to use Sea Kings helicopters.
The announcements follow last Saturday’s visit to Kyiv by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, where he announced £50m (€57.4m) in military aid and £16m (€18.3m) in humanitarian aid.
The military assistance includes “125 anti-aircraft systems and technologies to counter the deadly drones supplied by Iran, including dozens of radar and electronic equipment to counter drones,” Downing Street said in a statement.
