The Southern Operational Command of Ukraine claims that the main operation has begun Kinbourn a spit of land at the end of the Kinburn Peninsula in the Mykolaiv region, and a storm from the sea is helping Ukrainian troops to liberate this territory, Kyiv Independent reports.

Attempts by Ukrainian troops to reach the Kinburn Spit on the left bank of the Dnieper took place after the liberation of Kherson and other districts on the right bank of the river on November 11.

The Kinburn Spit is a narrow sand and bramble spit almost 5 km long that protrudes from the Kinburn Peninsula in the Black Sea at the mouth of the Dnipro River south of Kherson. This is one of the last parts of the Ukrainian Mykolaiv region that remained under Russian occupation.

The spokeswoman of the Southern Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Nataliya Humenyuk, reported that the operation on the Kinburn Spit was of a secret nature.

“Russian troops are moving there from the occupied territory. So they can afford to replenish their reserves even after we damage them,” Humenyuk said.

She stated that the operation is aided by very strong winds and storms, because “even nature washes and drains the enemy from this area.”

At the beginning of November, unconfirmed information appeared in the mass media that Ukrainian troops had captured part of Kinburn.

The Russian occupation government in the Kherson region then claimed that Ukrainian troops tried to land near the village of Pokrovske in Kinburn and were defeated.
