Thessaloniki: material with child pornography turned out to be in the possession of a foreigner posing as a policeman

Greek police have proceeded to arrest a 35-year-old foreigner who was awaiting arrest warrants from German authorities, as well as an international arrest warrant for fraud and cybercrime.

On the afternoon of 17 November, the police subdivisions for combating organized crime and human trafficking of the Security Directorate of Thessaloniki found him near the house where he lived in the Sykes area.

In particular, a 35-year-old man has been in Greece since at least 2019 and, in a car with German numbers, traveled around the districts of Thessaloniki, as well as in the prefectures of Drama, Kavala and Serres, at other times pretending to be a German policeman who serves in a special unit in Greece and aims to detect pedophiles, and sometimes the Greek police.

As it turned out, the detainee had nothing to do with the German police, and the documents he had, which, according to him, confirmed his alleged status, were fake.

In addition, a mobile phone was found in his possession, in the storage of which a large number of photo and video files related to child pornography were found, while further investigation showed that the alleged perpetrator, dressed in a Greek police uniform, went to the city hospital, where he underwent a series of tests, pretending to be a police officer.

Subsequent searches of the vehicle and his home revealed two German government license plates, at least one of which was fake, various referrals and medical tests from the hospital, fake German pay stubs, another person’s identity papers, and full Greek police uniforms.

The detainee with a case initiated against him for possession of pornographic materials of minors under the age of 12, forgery of certificates and counterfeiting was taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
