Conductor Voicu Enekescu, one of the landmarks of the choral movement in Romania, died on Saturday at the age of 79, his son Vlad Enekescu and Radio Romania Cultural announced, News.ro reported.

Voiku Enekescu, born on May 24, 1943 in Brenesti, Dambovitsa county, graduated from the Cipriana Porumbescu Conservatory of Music in Bucharest, where Zeno Vanca, Alexandru Paškanu, Petre Krecun, Constantin Romaškanu were teachers.

He experienced his first choral experience in the Radio Children’s Choir, where he admired the master conductor of that period, Ion Vanika. His passion for choral conducting took shape in the fall of 1972, when he founded a choral group made up of students from the University of Bucharest and the Conservatory, the Preludiu Chamber Choir, an ensemble that became one of the most awarded and valuable choral ensembles in the world. Romania. In 1991, he became the director of the Romanian Youth National Art Center. Subsequently, Voiku Enacescu conducted philharmonic choirs in the country – Craiova, Iași, Bucharest and conducted specialized seminars with choirs from France, Holland, Greece, the Republic of Moldova or Poland, reports Radio Romania Cultural.

In 2004, he was awarded the order “For cultural merits in the rank of commander of the promotion of cultural development.”

The lifeless body of the musician will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Romanian Athenaeum from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., where those who appreciated his art will be able to pay their last respects. The funeral will take place on Monday, November 21st at 12 noon at St Elias Cemetery in Piper.
