Ukraine’s army announced on Saturday that it would verify the authenticity of videos that Moscow says show the regime in Kyiv executed several Russian soldiers who surrendered.
“In order to start an investigation, there must be a reason for it. We want to determine whether these videos are fakes,” said the spokesman of the Ukrainian General Staff Bohdan Senyk, reports Agerpres. He added that these videos were “entrusted to specialists”, noting that the publication of fake footage “has recently become more active”.
On Friday, Russia accused Ukraine of executing more than ten of its soldiers who laid down their arms, and condemned it as a “war crime”. “No one will be able to present as a ‘tragic exception’ the deliberate and methodical killing of more than ten Russian soldiers who were immobilized (…) by direct shots to the head,” the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said. .

In the first video, taken on a mobile phone, a group of men in military uniforms can be seen one by one exiting the building with raised hands into the courtyard of the building and lying face down on the ground next to some soldiers wearing yellow armbands and who are holding the former in danger. As the last dark figure appears on the left, the footage suddenly cuts out at the same time as a volley of bullets.
The second video, taken from a height, probably with the help of a drone, shows about ten bodies lying in the middle of pools of blood. One of the bodies appeared to have been hit in the head.
The Russian Ministry of Defense did not specify when these recordings were made.

And the UN is reviewing video materials
Asked by AFP about it, a UN spokesman said: “We are aware of these videos and are looking into them.” He emphasized that if this happens, the guilty will be held accountable for their actions.
In turn, the Investigative Committee of Russia announced that it opened an investigation into the fact of the “shooting of captured Russian soldiers.”
Moscow’s claims came after the UN released a report this week showing prisoners of war from both camps were mistreated.
