Why Mariah Carey is not the ‘Queen of Christmas’

American court sided with Elizabeth Chan, blocking her efforts Mariah Carey to now be recognized as “The One and Only Queen of Christmas”.

Mariah Carey’s application for this pseudonym was denied by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The moniker will give Carey the legal right to prevent others from using the name in the music and products she sells as part of her brand. The popular singer also failed in her attempt to use the acronyms “QOC” and “Christmas Princess”.

Carey’s name has become synonymous with the holiday season ever since she released All I Want for Christmas Is You in 1994. 28 years have passed since its release, and the already classic Christmas song appeared in 2020, topping the charts. UK Top Singles Chart.

Chan is known for singing exclusively Christmas songs. In 2018, The New Yorker magazine named her “Queen of Christmas” because every year for ten years she released an album of songs about this holiday season. The singer criticized Carey for trying to “win” Christmas.

“I feel like no one should be as synonymous with Christmas as Mariah,” Chan said in an interview with the Variety website that was published in August.
