Explosions rang out in several parts of the country, including the southern port of Odesa, the capital Kyiv and the central city of Dnipro, and civilians were urged to take shelter amid air raid warnings.

Among the targets was the huge Pivdenmash missile plant in Dnipro, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmigal.

“Missiles are flying over Kyiv now. Now they are bombing our gas production facilities, bombing our enterprises in Dnipro and Pivdenmash,” he said at the conference, Interfax-Ukraine quotes.

It is not yet clear which gas production facilities are being referred to.

Russian missile attacks do not stop

Local authorities reported that two people were killed by rocket fire overnight in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, three people were injured in an attack on the northeastern city of Kharkiv, and three people were injured in Odesa.

In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, launching one of the strongest waves of missile attacks since the February 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine said its air defenses had shot down many missiles and drones launched in recent weeks. Kyiv city authorities said two Iranian-made cruise missiles and four Shahed drones were destroyed near the city on Thursday.

There is still no information about those killed during the new wave of airstrikes.

Ukraine demands more air defense systems

“This morning, Russia launched another missile attack on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.

“Putin wants to deprive millions of people of electricity and heating in freezing conditions. Send more air defense and missile defense systems to Ukraine to avoid this tragedy. Delays cost lives,” Nikolenko said.
