Two citizens (aged 42 and 31) were arrested in a spontaneous procedure on Wednesday afternoon (September 11) in the Heraklion prefecture by police officers of the North East Attica Security Sub-directorate of the Attica Security Directorate as members of a gang that committed known cases of stealing the profession. The identities of two more members of the gang, 52-year-old and 48-year-old, have been established, they are on the wanted list.

After using the information and a targeted search, the police were able to locate the official car in Neo-Heraklion and immobilize the aforementioned arrested passengers.

An inspection carried out in a company vehicle found and confiscated a laptop, five watches, sunglasses, a lot of jewelry, a metal clip, the amount of 600 euros and a fluorescent work vest with an inscription referring to a municipal employee. .

The items were found to have been removed from a single-family home in N. Heraklion, which they entered by breaking the kitchen window with a sharp object.

As a result of the investigation carried out by the aforementioned police officers, it turned out that they were actively involved in burglaries and thefts from houses with a certain methodology in the areas of North-East Attica (N. Heraklion, N. Ionia, Kifisia, Metamorfosi, Maroussi) for at least month of August this year.

According to their modus operandi, the detainees traveled in the morning to the above areas and inspected single-family houses in search of suitable ones for this purpose. They then proceeded to break in, gaining access inside by damaging the windows. Subsequently, they searched the premises and seized sums of money, jewelry and valuables.

A characteristic feature of their actions was the desire not to be seen, and for this, a gang member who approached the house was wearing a luminescent work vest, which indicates a municipal employee.

The gang members acted as three men each time, with two men physically present during the burglaries and a third acting as bouncer. The 48-year-old man, owner of the company car, provided cover for the perpetrators, so it was difficult to link the perpetrators to the activities.

At the moment, as part of the preliminary investigation, seven cases of burglary have been solved.

The detainees have been taken to the Athenian Prosecutor’s Office for Criminal Cases, and investigations into the arrest of other gang members, as well as other burglaries, are ongoing.
