There are vacancies in the headquarters universities from pupils what they would like to receive transcription. This is the exact opposite of the situation that existed before 2020, when the institutions of Attica, Thessaloniki and Patras were overwhelmed with recipients.

Another consequence of the new system (adopted by law 4692/2020) is the transfer of students who do not meet any economic or social criteria. They just applied! The explanation for the system’s paradoxes is the existence of an academic “cutter”. At the same time, almost all the places that were given for transfer to a related school remained empty.

In particular, most transfers are made by evaluating applicants based on the economic (family income) and social (eg, orphans or single-parent families, families with three children or large families) criteria that they meet. In total, 5,488 applications were submitted, 3,806 were accepted (69.3% vs. 72.4% in 2021). By law, the number of students transferred to each department is up to 15% of the number of students accepted by the Ministry of Education.

However, from Eleni Alpanidu, a career consultant at Orientum, processing this year’s transfer data, it appeared that there were vacancies at central universities that could be filled. It is significant that 24 posts were not filled at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Piraeus (PAPI), 16 posts in history – archeology EKPA, 35 posts in organization and business management of PAPI, 5 posts in dentistry NSPA, 6 posts in psychology Panthea.

How did this happen when all the places in the central universities were raffled off two years ago? The explanation is given by the academic “cutter”: each applicant, even if he met economic or social criteria, had to score 2750 points from the admissions base of the faculty to which he wanted to transfer, in the general Greek exams. . For example, the Department of Organization and Business Administration of PAPEI had a base of 15,840 units. Thus, it could accept transfer students who had at least 13,090 credits. Thus, not a single candidate meeting academic criteria was found for vacant positions.

The maximum number of points scored by the candidate was 9.5. However, another paradox was noticed. Applicants who met the academic criterion of 2750 credits difference were transferred, applied with supporting documents, but did not receive a single point in the scoring! That is, they did not meet either economic or social criteria. This was because not enough candidates met the academic criteria to fill the vacancies. “Well, someone should dare to apply, even if they don’t expect to be appointed,” Ms. Alpanidou emphasizes.

Finally, 1,322 out of 1,405 places that were made available to applicants who wanted to transfer to a faculty/school with a related subject to the one they were admitted to, remained empty. For example, someone who transferred to mathematics at a regional university asked to move to the department of statistics at a central university.

Visits by representatives of 30 American universities to Greek universities continued until yesterday in order to establish partnerships.
