Coalition leaders are unable to reach a consensus on energy prices and the percentage of pension increases. PSD and PNL have different versions when it comes to two big topics. Official sources told HotNews.ro that a coalition meeting to resolve the issues will take place on Wednesday, November 9. Until then, the two main parties are playing media ping-pong over the measures they want to introduce.
Official sources told HotNews.ro that the PSD wants to keep the limit of 0.8 lei/kWh for those who fall under the consumption of 255 kilowatts, while those who exceed the consumption pay a fixed price of 12-1.3 lei.
In addition, the Social Democrats do not agree with capping the price at 1.3 lei/kWh for large economic consumers, as the liberals would like.
According to the sources cited, the Social Democrats want to keep the amendments to GEO 119/2022, according to which public services benefit from energy price compensation: hospitals, schools, utilities, as well as people who use medical equipment at home that consumes electricity .
Regarding the regulation of energy prices from January 1, 2023, the leaders of the Coalition seem to have agreed that this will be done by a new government decree.
PSD and PNL dispute the percentage of the pension increase
Regarding pensions, PSD and PNL could not reach a consensus. The Social Democrats advocate an 11.92% increase in only small pensions of 1,500 lei and the provision of social benefits for three months for all low-income categories.
On the other hand, the Liberals want a 15% increase in pensions, but without any other social benefits.
At the public level, the PSD says that a 15% increase in pensions will result in a budget effort of 16.5 billion.
What changes with firewood
According to Hotnews.ro sources, in the coalition PSD, PNL and UDMR would reach an agreement on the price of firewood. The ceiling of 400 lei per cubic meter will be abolished, and the subsidy for heating with firewood will be extended. Thus, depending on the income, assistance will be provided up to 320 lei.
According to estimates, the number of beneficiaries will change and increase from 500,000 to 1.5 million beneficiaries.
On Wednesday, November 9, a meeting of the Coalition will be held to resolve the issues.
