The global food price index also fell in October for the seventh month in a row, although there was an increase in grain prices, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced on Friday, Reuters reported, citing Agerpres.
In October, this index fell to 135.9 points against the revised value of 136 points reached in September. Although it has declined for seven consecutive months, the figure is 2% higher than it was in October 2021.
Cereal prices, calculated by FAO, rose 3% in October, with wheat registering a 3.2% increase amid uncertainty over Ukrainian exports and a downward revision in US supplies. And rice rose in price by 1% in October.
Instead, vegetable oils fell in price by 1.6% in October. This figure is almost 20% lower than in October 2021. The increase in international quotations of sunflower oil was more than compensated by the decrease in the prices of palm, soybean and rapeseed oils.
Also, international prices for meat and milk decreased by 1.4% and 1.7%, respectively, and sugar – by 0.6%.
