Revitusa: floating tank being filled with LNG

Strategic insurance stocks on its own behalf Mytilene this is the first amount of LNG to be received by a new floating tank of the former Soviet Union in Revitussa. The GazLog vessel, which will operate as a floating tank, has been anchoring at a distance of 700 meters from the Revitussa station since July and is the first floating station in the world at such a small distance from land. The decision to install a new floating tank was taken by the RAE in the context of ensuring the sufficiency of natural gas supplies to the country due to the energy crisis, and in pursuance of this, DESFA, through international tender procedures, proceeded to lease the vessel GasLog. for 12 months. This increases the capacity of the terminal’s three existing above ground tanks by about 70%, from 225,000 cubic meters to at least 375,000 cubic meters.

The new FSU will function as a storage facility for strategic natural gas reserves, as planned by the EU. must be preserved by Greece for the coming winter. The obligation to maintain strategic reserves applies to power units that cannot operate on alternative fuels, and in the amount of 0.57 terawatt-hours for the period from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.

The safety stock on behalf of Mytilineos is the first amount of LNG to be received by a new reservoir in the former Soviet Union.

Mytilineos will be the first company to place strategic LNG reserves in Revitus, and for good reason. The operation of a floating tank is, for the first time, a process with technical difficulties that require experience to overcome. Mytilineos, according to DESFA, has the necessary size and experience of the largest natural gas trader in the Balkans, as well as reliable suppliers. To continue storing the LNG, the storage tank will need to be cooled to be able to keep the stock cool. This process is carried out with the help of the ship-to-ship operation, which began the day before yesterday and was successfully completed yesterday. After obtaining the necessary permits from the competent authorities, the ship “Arctic Princess”, which went to Revitusa for this process (cooling and gassing), anchored (BSS), connected with rubber connectors and transported LNG to perform cooling, that is, the ship of the former USSR acquires the status a thermos bottle capable of keeping LNG shipments chilled.

This procedure is performed only the first time the ship is operated as an FSU. Any quantity and at any time thereafter can simply be transported by unloading the LNG. The process of unloading cargo with an area of 140,000 sq.m. LNG from Mytilineos supplied by Norway’s Ekuinor starts today and will last for two days. The Mytilineos cargo will cover the full capacity of the former Soviet Union, providing critical reserves to supply the country adequately for the next five months.
