
Instagram today announced login issues experienced by app users, some of which reported suspended or untracked accounts, with the company emphasizing that it is working on a resolution to the issue.
“We know some of you are having trouble accessing your Instagram account,” Meta Communications explained on their Twitter account. “We’re working on it and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Dozens of netizens reported on social media today that their Instagram account names were not found or that they had received messages informing them that their account had been suspended.
Specialized site Downdetector reported several thousand such incidents, which peaked at 16:00 Greek time. A similar incident happened on September 22, without explanation on Instagram.
The connectivity issues came less than a week after another popular meta messaging app, WhatsApp, went down for hours, affecting billions of users.
In October 2021, Instagram, WhatsApp, as well as Meta’s flagship, Facebook, went down for several hours due to a coordination issue between different data centers.
Meta shares fell nearly 5% on Wall Street, with the share price at its lowest level since January 2016.
The group released results last Wednesday that analysts found disappointing, characterized by a slowdown in ads and the emergence of competitors, most notably TikTok.
