WizzAir is temporarily suspending operations at its air base in Chisinau starting December 1, citing security risks, but there is also the possibility of closing the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, News.ro reports. Thus, some flights will be transferred to Iasi.
According to representatives of WizzAir, flights from Chisinau to Paris Beauvais, Brussels Charleroi, Basel-Mulhouse and Turin will be discontinued from December 1, 2022, and passengers can book these flights from the base in Iasi, where these destinations already exist.
Other Wizz Air flights will be transferred from Chisinau to bases in Romania, respectively to Iași, but possibly also to Bacău.
“After an in-depth risk assessment and taking into account the challenges associated with the possibility of closing the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, we have adjusted our schedule for the 2022-2023 winter season from Chisinau to ensure its optimal operation. Until November 30, 2022, Wizz Air will continue to operate flights from Chisinau to Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain. With this schedule adjustment, Wizz Air will temporarily suspend its base in Chisinau from December 1, 2022,” Wizz Air company representatives said.
In connection with News.ro, the director of Iasi airport, Romeo Vatre, said that he is aware of WizzAir’s intention to temporarily suspend the base in Chisinau, but he cannot specify which routes will be transferred to Iasi airport.
“Due to the war in Ukraine this year, WizzAir has moved flights from Chisinau to Iași. Probably, from December there will be some flights from Chisinau to Iași, but we do not know the exact directions. The announcement will come as soon as possible from the air operator,” said the director Yesi Romeo Vatre Airport.
