PSD leader Marcel Colacu announced on Friday in Buzău that the party’s first vice-president, Gabriela Firea, will be the candidate of the Social Democrats for the post of Mayor General of the Municipality of Bucharest, News.ro reports.
“I don’t know who will be the PSD candidate in the presidential elections. I personally do not know this. On the other hand, I know one thing for sure – Gabriela Firea will be the candidate of the PSD for the general mayor’s office of the capital,” Marcel Čolaku announced on Friday at the election conference of the PSD of Buzeu district.
He added, “as they say in Bucharest – if the Buzoyans were absent from Bucharest for a day, then it would circulate normally, I consider it expedient to directly join the future campaign.”
- POLL: Who would you vote for in Bucharest City Hall if the elections were held on Sunday?
On September 7, Gabriela Firea said that she does not want to run for the presidential election and would like to run for the mayor’s office in the capital, but she understands that there are certain games, because there must always be conflicts.
“Of course I want to continue the projects from Bucharest, it was not a problem to aim for another position,” Firea explained.
Also in September, the PSD leader said that Gabriela Firea should decide where she will run: for the post of president or mayor of Bucharest.
Gabriela Firea, the poll favorite for the capital’s mayor’s office
According to an Avangarde poll conducted in September, Gabriela Firea would be the PSD candidate who would win the mayoralty elections, regardless of who the counter-candidates proposed by the parties would be.
The survey presented different options for candidates from the respective party they belong to and different lists they could be on in case of local elections.
According to the poll, the most suitable candidates from the parties would be Gabriela Firea, Cyprian Chuku, Katalin Drula and George Simion.
Gabriela Firea’s share is, depending on the list of opponents, from 28% to 30%.
His strongest challenger would be the PNL’s Cyprian Chuku, who is credited with between 18% and 24%.
The share of the current mayor-general, Nikusor Dan, is between 16% and 18%, and 49% of respondents say that he should no longer run for a new mandate.
The survey was conducted by Avangarde on behalf of Digi 24 between 09/07/2022 and 09/14/2022 on a sample of 901 people from Bucharest. The data collection method was CATI (telephone). The maximum sampling error at the 95% confidence level is +/- 3.4%.
