Over the decades, cars have been significantly modernized. Now almost all of them have a touch screen or even for the best equipped a digital phone. Today, the vast majority of cars that roll off the assembly line are connected and equipped with a lot of technology, while many brands are also choosing to forgo physical buttons. So much so that some manufacturers integrate air conditioning settings into the screens. More and more people are also choosing touch control on the steering wheel to give the interior an even more modern look. But it is still not to everyone’s taste, and it is not always very practical.

Memory
So much so that some brands are starting to question and want to take a step back. This is especially true at Volkswagen, as its new boss Thomas Schaefer mentioned in a post on LinkedIn. He claims that ” we are improving our catalog and design, making it easier to work on board our vehicles. For example, we are going to restart the physical buttons on the steering wheel!“. Good news for many motorists who only moderately appreciate this touch control, which is not always easy to master. Other brands follow the same reasoning, starting with the DS, and its designer, Thierry Metro and his teams are also working to “remove most screens in our future interiors.”
A little evolution
At the moment, we do not yet know exactly when this change will come to production models, but certain noises from the corridors cause Golf 8 restyling. The spy shots do show his driving position, noticeably devoid of touch buttons on the steering wheel. However, we don’t know if this will also affect those below the center screen. And to be honest, we hope so too. But we’ll soon learn a little more about it over the next few months.
