Vasile Dinku had his first brief reaction after announcing his resignation on Facebook, telling reporters in parliament that no one had asked him to resign and that he had not spoken to President Klaus Iohannis. Vasile Dinku, answering journalists’ questions, stated that he had not received a reprimand from President Klaus Iohannis and had not communicated with him in recent days.
When asked when there were misunderstandings with Yohannis, which he motivated by his resignation, Dinku answered:
- “Because I heard from sources that I have to resign and everyone else.
- In that statement, I made the reason for my resignation very clear. (…)
- I did not have any specific criticism from the president. I have not spoken to President Iohannis today or yesterday. So far, no one has asked me to resign.
- I don’t want to influence the work of the defense now.”
Defense Minister Vasile Dinku announced his resignation on Monday, citing his inability to cooperate with President Klaus Iohannis. The resignation came more than two weeks after he said that “the war in Ukraine will continue” and that “the only chance for peace may be negotiations with Russia”, statements accused by Klaus Iohannis, among others. “(…) probably, some of our high-ranking people need to read the press magazine more often to learn about these positions,” the president responded at the time.
