One of the most important novels of recent years, which, after its publication, provoked discussions, reactions and, above all, reading, “Red on the Green Line” (published by Metaichmio) by the author Vassilis Gourogiannis received an award from the University of Cyprus. The author will donate the book’s manuscript to the University of Cyprus Library at a special event organized by the Institute’s Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies Department on Friday, November 4, in Nicosia. Pantelis Voutouris, Professor of Modern Greek Philology at the University of Cyprus, and Angelos Sirygos, Associate Professor at the Department of International Law and Foreign Policy at Panteion University, will talk about a book that describes the descent to Cyprus and visits to the territories by a group of ELDIK veterans.

Brutal attack on Rushdie

Writer Salman Rushdie lost sight in one eye and movement in one arm after he was stabbed to death by a young man in August as he prepared to give a lecture in New York. The severity of the writer’s health condition, which has remained unclear until now, was revealed by his agent, Andrew Wylie, who confirmed to the Spanish newspaper El Pais that Rushdie had suffered a particularly severe attack. The 75-year-old author received death threats after Ayatollah Khomeini issued a religious decree against him in 1989 for his book The Satanic Verses, but he recently said his life is “pretty normal” again.
