Steinmeier wants to meet with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi during the trip, ntv also reports.
The President of Germany was expected in Ukraine on Thursday. However, the trip was soon canceled due to the tense security situation, when Kyiv came under rocket fire and drones, DW notes.
An official representative of the presidential office said that the security authorities of Germany and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Steinmeier not to go, but the visit will soon be postponed.
However, other leaders continued to visit Kyiv. For example, Swiss President Ignatius Cassis visited the Ukrainian capital on the same day Steinmeier was supposed to be there, Deutsche Welle reminds.
