China: This is a team of leaders – who is behind Xi Jinping

Communist Party of China introduced its new leadership team of seven officials. None of the new members of the Standing Committee seem to be able to outshine the president. Xi Jinping.

Then follows its composition in the order determined by the protocol. As a rule, the second or third is also called the prime minister of the country.

In power since 2012, the 69-year-old leader has been re-elected for a third term as CCP general secretary, promising his fellow citizens to build a “modern socialist country” despite potential “dangerous storms” that may come their way.

His new term at the top of the party apparatus also guarantees him a third presidential term, starting in March 2023.

The 63-year-old head of the party organization in Shanghai is considered a loyal ally of Xi Jinping.

His image was tarnished in the spring due to the chaotic management of the self-isolation regime in the metropolis to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus pandemic.

But, despite this, they expected a “promotion” from him, analysts from the SinoInsider Institute dismissed, calling the situation “ironic”. In his case, “talk of favoritism” within the CCP will never stop, as sinologist Bill Bishop commented earlier this week.

The 65-year-old man, a member of Xi Jinping’s inner circle, headed the fearsome Party Disciplinary Review Committee tasked with conducting a massive anti-corruption operation. Previously, he headed the CCP’s influential “organizational office”, which makes decision on the appointment of leaders.

One of two members of the Standing Committee, along with Ding Suexiang, who never held power at the city or county level.

The 67-year-old Francophile is considered one of the main ideologues of the KKK. He is credited with coining the phrase “Chinese Dream”. This is a slogan often used by President Xi.

Originally from Shanghai, Mr. Wang is also said to have links to former President Jiang Zemin’s (1993-2003) network of people.

The head of the party organization in Beijing, he worked with the current general secretary for many years.

It was already within his sphere of influence when Mr Xi ruled the coastal provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang from 1999 to 2007.

The 66-year-old man took charge of security issues in the capital in 2014. He oversaw the Winter Olympics earlier in the year.

At 60, Xi Jinping’s modest personal secretary boasts of being among the Chinese president’s closest associates and advisers. He was already part of his team when Mr. Xi took over the leadership of the Shanghai party organization in 2007.

As of 2017, he is a member of the Central Committee of the KKK, its inner-party “parliament” of about two hundred members. His face often appears in the background in state media, as he is almost never far from the President.

At 66, he has been in a relationship with the head of the party and state since the 1980s, when he was the secretary of a close associate of Mao’s father Xi Jinping.

He leads the party organization in the industrial province of Guangdong (south), neighboring Hong Kong.
