Pro-Russian forces have made tactical progress over the past three days towards the center of Bakhmut, a strategically important town in eastern Donetsk region, and may have moved into a village south of the city, the British Ministry of Defense said in an assessment on Friday morning.

The city of Bakhmut is located on the main road leading to the cities of Slavyansky and Kramatorsk.

Wagner’s mercenary group “probably remains” heavily involved in the fighting in Bakhmut, British military intelligence says.

In Ukraine’s Donbas region, the British Ministry of Defense said that Russia is continuing offensive operations in the central part of the territory and that it is making “very slow” progress.

However, the Russian initiative is undermined by Ukrainian pressure on its northern and southern flanks, as well as acute shortages of ammunition and troops.
