Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said Thursday that he should have “as open a discussion as possible” with Defense Minister Vasile Dinka after he returns to the country about his view that “the war in Ukraine will continue.” and that “the only chance for peace may be negotiations with Russia.”
- “I am waiting for the minister to return to the country from the NATO ministry. We want a discussion that is as open as possible to your opinion. This is not the opinion of the Government, and then we will have to cut this aspect very clearly.” Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke made the announcement on Thursday while visiting the Dacia factory in Mioveni.
A day after criticizing Klaus Iohannis, PSD leader Marcel Čolaku said on Wednesday that Defense Minister Vasile Dinku was wrong to say that talks were the only chance to end the war in Ukraine.
The PSD member said on the EVZ podcast on Wednesday that when you are the minister of defense in a country in a conflict zone, you cannot have “personal opinions and beliefs” and Vasile Dinku should have spoken to the president. and the Prime Minister before expressing a position.
“As a personal, collegial opinion, definitely yes, he was wrong,” said Marcel Cholak.
When asked about Dinka’s reshuffle, the head of the PSD replied: “If the prime minister asks for it, we will hold a discussion in the coalition.”
President Klaus Iohannis reacted on Tuesday after Defense Minister Vasile Dinku said that “negotiations with Russia may be the only chance for peace”.
The head of state noted that the official position of Romania is that only Ukraine decides when, how and about what it negotiates, and some high-ranking government officials should read the press magazine to find out.
In an intervention on the Prima TV channel, the Minister of Defense of Romania stated that “the war in Ukraine will continue and that the only chance for peace may be negotiations with Russia.”
“Of course, these are difficult negotiations (…) The countries of the world, NATO, the USA should conduct negotiations for Ukraine about security guarantees and peace with Russia. Ukraine itself will not be able to negotiate with Russia, because the political class in Ukraine cannot now allow, assume (…) the loss of territories, the ultimately unjust loss of territories. It would be too big a defeat for politics,” he said.
