Environment Minister Tanchos Barna says that even with rising electricity tariffs, buying an electric car is profitable, showing that at two lei per kilowatt, an electric car consumes less than one with an internal combustion engine. Tanchos emphasizes that when making a decision to buy a car, it is also necessary to take into account the fact that electric cars reduce pollution in big cities, and “when we talk about our health, we can’t always calculate profitability”, according to News.ro.

“Today, driving an electric car is no more expensive than driving a gasoline or diesel car. And in conditions where you pay 1.80-2 lei for electricity instead of 80 lei, and in those conditions an electric car is at least on par with, if not slightly below, these standard engines. But, again, the electric car is an ideal solution to remove the pollution of big cities, and when we talk about pollution, we talk about our health, we can’t always calculate profitability. The effort should also be joint from the local government because where the diesel buses have been removed, it is very clear that the pollution has reduced in that city, where there are more and more electric cars, it will definitely reduce the pollution and it will be a win-win situation for the citizens , for health,” Tanchos Barna said Wednesday night on Digi 24.

He emphasized that the electric car is most profitable from the point of view of consumption, if it is charged at an ordinary station, and not at a fast one.
