European Parliament President Roberta Metzola said the European Union “must and can do more” to help Ukraine by providing more military equipment in light of Russia’s recent escalation.
“What we saw today suggests that Russia will continue to escalate further… How will we respond? If our response is not escalating, we will continue to see him kill more people,” Metzola told CNN.
EU sanctions are “clearly not enough,” she said, calling on member states to unite and provide more weapons, especially tanks, which the Ukrainians have been asking for.
“Ukraine is asking for them, and the European Union has the opportunity to agree on what it gives to Ukraine. I know the senior representatives are working very hard on this. I know that we can do more militarily,” Metzola said.
At least six people were killed and 51 injured in Kyiv alone as a result of Russia’s largest-ever missile strikes on Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy announced the suspension of electricity exports to the European Union after Russian missile strikes on energy infrastructure on Monday, Reuters reports.
