In the coming years, Amazon will invest a billion euros to significantly increase its fleet of delivery vehicles, as well as invest in charging stations and small logistics centers. Amazon is buying 100,000 electric vans from Rivian in the US, but they will be delivered over many years.
Amazon has a fleet of 3,000 electric vehicles in Europe and plans to reach 10,000 in the next five years.
The company also wants to buy 1,500 medium-capacity trucks in the coming years. Amazon will also invest in several thousand new charging points and double the number of mini-mobility logistics centers.
Several courier companies have bought electric cars in recent years, but not in large numbers, the obstacle being the reduced range, as well as the high price of these cars.
Several large companies, as well as early-stage startups, are working to bring fully electric vehicles to market to be sold in large quantities to courier, logistics and postal companies.
The problem is that the development of these models is complex and therefore takes many years, and only a small number of projects achieve commercial success.
Amazon will also buy cars from Volvo and Mercedes-Benz.
