Around 20,000 people took part in a pilgrimage called Calea Sfintilor in Iași on Sunday evening, as priests carried the relics of Saint Paraskeva and Saint Paisius through the streets of the city center, News.ro reported.

The two chests were taken from the canopy installed in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi and carried by priests on their shoulders along the route Kuza-Vode Street – Armeana Street – Kostake Negri Street – Three Hierarchs Monastery – Metropolitan Cathedral.

More than 200 priests took part in the event, including the Metropolitan of Moldova and Bukovyna, IPS Theophanes. Representatives of the local and district administration were also present. According to the gendarmes, about 20,000 people took part in the march.

Around 20:00, the holy relics were returned to the cathedral yard.

According to the gendarmes, by Sunday evening, more than 54,000 people had bowed to the holy relics, and another 1,500 stood in line. 89 pilgrims needed medical assistance, four people were taken to the hospital.

According to the authorities, more than 300,000 pilgrims are expected to take part in religious events to be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi next week on the occasion of the Shrine of the Pious Saint Paraskeva.

On October 14, the Holy Liturgy will be held, the service will take place on the stage located on the pedestrian street Stefan cel Mare, in front of the cathedral in Iasi.

The reliquary with holy relics will be in the courtyard of the cathedral until Saturday, October 15.
