Military pensions are not special, as in the entire NATO system, throughout Europe, military pensions are not privileged pensions, but are state pensions for which the army has contributed, Minister of National Defense Vasile Dinku said on Saturday.
“The pension system will not change in this sense. (…) Military pensions are not special pensions. We agreed on this with the Minister of Labor, with the Prime Minister, next week we will go to Brussels, we will meet with a representative of the World Bank, who is conducting research on this matter, and we will show that in the entire NATO system, throughout Europe, military pensions are not are pension benefits, they are government pensions that the military contributes to, and it was another system that rewarded merit because there were a lot of freedoms that the military lost because of that statute. (…) We will never accept a transition to a contribution principle that cannot work because you cannot calculate all the elements of the contribution from the past, and this was seen, it was tried about 10 years ago, and the system was rather broken more , than was done,” said Vasile Dinku on Prima TV, reports Agerpres.
He said that he is taking measures to comply with the principle of “equal ranks and positions — equal pensions.”
“The second front of my battle is to succeed in Parliament and with the help of the Government to restore pensions justice because our reservists, those in reserve and pensions, are being treated unfairly because they left at different historical times. and usually we have to adhere to the principle “equal ranks and positions – equal pensions”. It is not normal that someone who retired a long time ago, 20 years ago, let’s say, as a general, now has a pension that a major or colonel has, with equal positions and ranks, with equal seniority,” said the Minister of Defense.
He expressed hope that he will take the initiative at this session of the parliament.
“If not, we still have a project, we’ve created an interagency commission here, we’ve also created a framework, an advisory committee with organizations of military retirees and reservists, and I’m sure we’ll figure it out, find an issue that will solve these things, let’s to have a political solution that will solve these things in the future, especially since we do not harm the general budget through the budget of the Ministry of National Defense, we manage these pensions and salaries through our management. We will solve these things in a very short time,” Vasile Dinku added.
