Retired Colonel-General Andriy Kartapalov, now the chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee, is calling on the Moscow Defense Ministry to stop lying in its daily reports on the progress of the war.
“First of all, we have to stop lying. We talked about it more than once. Margarita Simonyan spoke about this very directly,” says Kartapalov, referring to the head of the Russia Today TV channel.
“But for some reason the message does not reach high-ranking officials. Yesterday and today I read the military news of the Radinformburo (the main information agency of the Soviet Union in World War II) for 1941. Since June, July, August, October, when the Germans were advancing on Moscow, every update said that in some places we are retreating, in others we are stubbornly repelling the attacks of the overwhelming enemy forces, in some places we are leaving populated areas, but every news story says that that Comrade X’s brigade had achieved something, that our illustrious pilots had shot down 10 enemy planes, and 10 enemy planes elsewhere. that we lost 7 planes,” the Russian general reports.
He then notes that Russians who at the time read major newspapers circulating in the USSR, such as Pravda or Izvestia (the oldest daily newspaper in Russia), were aware that the situation was complex. “They realized that there is a danger for our Motherland, because the enemy is on our land,” he emphasizes.

Andriy Kartapalov claims that Russians are not stupid
The colonel-general, who before being elected to the State Duma on the lists of President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party, was the deputy minister of defense and in 2016-2017 commanded the Russian military group in Syria, then makes more dubious statements about Ukrainian attacks. on the territory of Russia, although a minute before that he had just asked the Ministry of Defense to provide a more realistic picture of the development of the war.
“We learn about these things from various people, from regional governors, from the directors of some Telegram channels, from our military correspondents, but from no one else,” he claims.
“The messages of the Ministry of Defense practically do not change in terms of the content: “we shot down 10 missiles, hit 50 targets, destroyed hundreds of Nazis” and nothing else,” he paraphrases.
“But people know. And here begins the main problem. The people of our country are not stupid. They are far from stupid. But they see that they do not consider it necessary to tell them even a part of the truth, let alone the whole truth. This is not good at all. This can lead to a loss of trust,” he claims.
Kartapalov made these statements during an appearance on the Solovyov Live show of TV presenter Volodymyr Solovyov, who a day earlier complained about the “lust” with which the Ukrainian armed forces attack Russian troops, also saying that NATO “smelled the blood” of the Russian military.
The Russian general offered to take Ukrainian children to Russia
From the position of chairman of the State Duma defense committee, Andriy Kartapalov “advised” Russian men not to travel even within the country after President Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization on September 21.
At the beginning of August, Kartapalov also suggested forcibly taking Ukrainian children from their parents in the territories occupied by Russian troops and taking them to study in Russia, claiming that “this is how they will have a future.”
“We have to take care of the children. Perhaps even our Suvovoriv and Nakhimov cadet schools would have an additional recruitment, and we could send these children there,” he said then, adding that children forcibly removed from Ukraine can also be sent to other universities in Russia for free.
Russian President Vladimir Putin officially formalized the annexation of the occupied Ukrainian territories last Friday.
