The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Romanian Rugby Federation voted unanimously on Wednesday to grant the Arc de Triomphe stadium free use for 49 years, reports rugbyromania.ro.
The arena was reconstructed on the occasion of Euro-2020, the football competition took place in the summer of 2021 (it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic).
Eduard Novak gives the Arc de Triomphe stadium to rugby
“We have always wanted to find a legal way and solution to support rugby. A year and a half has passed, we have struggled in many situations to be able to administer. We felt that we could not transfer the whole complex to rugby because they only had the stadium and the whole complex would be too much.
We tried to find a solution to make a tie and only provide a stadium for rugby, provided that it can also be used for other sports such as football. But until we get to that point, we need a very, very serious legal analysis.” Eduard Novakminister of sports, for Agerpres.
Alin Petraque: The stadium is going back to where it belongs, to the Romanian Rugby Federation
“The General Assembly unanimously voted for the free use by the Romanian Rugby Federation of the part of the building designated as the Arc de Triomphe National Sports Complex, except for accommodation, sports rehabilitation center, tennis courts and part of the car park.
That is, the Ministry of Sports will be left to manage the other parties mentioned above. This Assembly is needed because the previous deed between the Ministry and the Federation stipulated that the whole institution would return to the Romanian Rugby Federation, a fact which the current management no longer wants to respect.
In short, we’re getting closer to the normalcy we’ve been talking about for the last two years, namely the National Rugby Stadium, the Arc de Triomphe, back in place. Namely, in the Romanian Rugby Federation.
Unfortunately, this is not happening as the original discussion was to get the whole complex for our sport, but considering the aspects that have happened over the last 24+ months regarding this complex, I can say that this is a big win for us, to have a modern stadium where we can play, educate our future generations here, stay on the ground that this is the TEMPLE OF ROMANIAN RUGBY, and it will be the legacy we will leave to our descendants” – Alin PetrachePresident of the Romanian Rugby Federation.
The Romanian Rugby Federation is going to ask the Ministry of Sports to initiate a draft government decision, according to which the Arc de Triomphe stadium will be transferred to the FRR for free use for 49 years.
